Theft committed by household, housekeeping help

One of the greater problems faced by people who keep household help is that it is difficult to find a honest servant and the household help may steal items from the home or leak confidential information about the home to others who will commit the crime. Usually when a theft or robbery will take place in the house, the servants are usually the main suspect, and are contacted by the police for questioning
The recent theft of jewellery in the house of the Myntra CEO in Bengaluru reported in the media, is an example of a theft where the household help was the main suspect.
In many cases, the theft will be petty in nature and not be reported. For example, a family member may keep some money or purse outside on a table or similar place, as he or she completes the daily chores. The servant doing the cleaning work, can easily pocket the money lying outside if no one is monitoring, and the person whose money has been stolen can do little about it.
When the money is missing, the person will waste time searching for the money thinking that he or she has misplaced it, when actually the servant has stolen the money, If the family is not strict in taking action against the household help who has stolen money, they can lose a lot of money, especially if small amounts are being stolen regularly.
